IFC Center Presents Peur(s) du Noir

    http://www.papermag.com/ blogs/ 2008/ 11/ ifc_center_presents_peurs_du_n.php

On a road trip through New England, I stopped at my mother's house. While scrolling through the On-Demand flicks, I stumbled upon Peur(s) du Noir (Translation: Fear(s) of the Dark). Narrated by Aure Atika and Guillaume Depardieu, Peur(s) du Noir is a surreal and sublimely scary journey into the dark.

    http://paracinemamag.blogspot.com/ 2008/ 11/ rip-pioneer-theater-nyc.html

It really breaks my heart when things like this happen. As a totally and apologetically independent film magazine, it is crushing when a similar entity falls away. October 31st marked the final show at New York's Pioneer Theater. We dragged our heels when it came to actually attending screenings there.

The Death of Film: Godfrey Cheshire's First Movie Premieres Remember pre-millenium New York? I know, it's difficult to remember. But way back in 1999 Press film critic Godfrey Cheshire wrote about the "Death of Film" and stirred up all sorts of raw cinephilic emotions.

The Exhibitionist: Long Story on Short Films

    http://www.cinematical.com/ 2008/ 09/ 07/ the-exhibitionist-long-story-on-short-…

When was the last time you saw a short film in the theater? I don't mean an 85-minute animated movie; I mean an actual short, like they give separate Oscars to. Otherwise known as a short subject, defined (by the Academy) as anything with a running time less than 40 minutes.

Moving Midway Gets a Hand From Whit Stillman

    http://blog.spout.com/ 2008/ 08/ 18/ moving-midway-gets-a-hand-from-whit-stillma…

Last week, when I interviewed Whit Stillman on the occasion of Metropolitan’s premiere on Hulu, I asked him what movies he’d recently seen and enjoyed, and though he said that “seeing the trailers puts me off many more films than makes me want to see,” he noted that he did enjoy Sex and the City, which was lensed by his own frequent cinematographer John Thomas.

Exclusive Clip: A GIRL CUT IN TWO

    http://blog.spout.com/ 2008/ 08/ 13/ a-girl-cut-in-two-video/

“Sexuality is one of the great mysteries of humanity.” Or so declares famous, 50-something novelist Charles Saint-Denis, near the beginning of Claude Chabrol’s latest film, A Girl Cut in Two. A bit too much of an on-the-nose of a thesis statement for a film about various crimes of passion?

Beautiful Losers celebrates the spirit behind one of the most influential cultural movements of a generation. In the early 1990’s a loose-knit group of likeminded outsiders found common ground at a little NYC storefront gallery.
