Google Releases Talk For the iPhone By Michael Calore July 3rd, 2008 Categories: Mobile Google has pushed out a special version of its chat application optimized for iPhone and iPod Touch users. Point your iPhone's browser to google.com/talk to access it. The new interface lets you initiate chats and switch between active chats just like you would in Gmail. The only catch is that you have to have the app open in your browser in order to receive and send chats. If you navigate away from the app, your status will be reset to "Unavailable" and your session will be restarted when you bring the chat up in your browser.

Il Google Phone ritarda, ed ecco allora spuntare una piccola killer application, apparentemente innocua, ma SENSIBILE! In attesa del mio iPhone 2 (prenotato per venerdi prossimo) ho provato Talk su un IPOD Touch di 16 Giga, con grande soddisfazione. Per carità niente di straordinario, si tratta di un instant messenger un po' più sofisticato, ma il potenziale rischio è che gli SMS siano un po' sotto scacco. Con una potenziale estesa comunità di gente con G e I - PHONEs in mano, effettivamente, l'instant messaging e il chatting guadagnerà consensi e gli SMS sembreranno molto poveri... Mi interessa il lato tecno-sociale della cosa: i ragazzi di tutto il mondo potrebbero chattare con maggior gioia attraverso simili dispositivi. Un altro scacco agli enormi proventi di rapina che si fanno ancora sugli SMS......Il mondo digitale diventa mobile, i contenuti sono sempre più "live" e generati dagli utenti.....peccato che il sistema pubblico e istituzionale italiano riesca solo ad immaginare "portali" di "contenuti" simil- TV (ma della vecchia TV analogica). La nueva interface nos permite inicar chats y cambiar entre chats activos como lo haríamos con el Gmail. El único problema es que debes tener una aplicación abierta en tu navegador para poder recibir y enviar mensajes. Si navegas fuera de ésta aplicación en el iPhone tu estatus se resetea y se presenta como "No Disponible" y tu sesión será reiniciada cuando vuelvas a poner el chat en tu navegador. De todos modo, en cualquier chat que estabas envuelto antes de salir, así como mensajes abierto serán enviados y mostrado. Fuente de la noticia

Google Talk’s iPhone web-app works pretty darned well. Still doesn’t run in the background of course but it is fast and useful enough.
