When youve got no record to run on, this is the kind of bull you pull. Days before the anniversary of September 11, on the same morning that John McCain and Barack Obama released a joint statement pledging to avoid politics in light of the anniversary

    Mile High: The Speech

Let’s remember what Obama says America can be: It’s still inspiring, and should remain so through the annals of history. It received universal acclaim by “bringing lofty words down to Earth” while taking the fight to his opponent and appealing to swing voters. And how did That One get to this position? How did he gain national prominence? No, not by being a senator. By saying what America can be: As I discussed over 80,000 packed Mile High stadium to see the speech. The tens of thousands of attendees who were not in attendance at the other Convention events had access to Mile High with their community credentials, a high-security ticket: How did the Republicans respond to the Democratic National Convention? They claimed Democrats threw away flags when in reality, Republicans stole what was left behind. I guess the Republicans are deaf to 84,000+ Democrats chanting “U.S.A.”. Most people I saw leave the evening events of the Convention left with at least one flag in hand. I ended up with one from the Pepsi Center and two from Mile High Stadium, which serve to remind me when I am in disbelief of attending this profound event that in fact yes I was there. Some of the images also shake my disbelief. Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at the Democratic National Convention: Unfortunately, this behind the scenes look didn’t feature feature the Macs running at least part of the convention. Stop Talking About Republican Flag-Desecration Scandal

Some of my fellow liberal bloggers have seized upon the documented fact that a huge American flag was dragged across the ground by the McCain campaign. They have even provided this video of the atrocity, which ought to make "real" Americans angry, especially here in Missouri, because Missouri is where they chose to demonstrate their disregard and disdain for America. It bothers me to even post the video. Despite my strong patriotism, I am calling on my fellow liberal bloggers to cease discussion of the Republican flag-desecration scandal. While it provides a vivid example of how the Republicans have a penchant for false patriotism, and how little respect they really have for patriotism after it has served their self-interest, I think that we should be better than that. We should remember that not all Republicans are flag-tramplers. In fact, even in this case, we have no evidence that John McCain personally approved of the flag-dragging. I doubt that he personally approved or ordered the flag-desecration, because he has been terribly busy planning attacks on Obama's patriotism, and on the patriotism of those who support him. When Governor Palin claimed that "real Americans" are supporting her ticket, and "anti-Americans" are supporting Obama, I'm willing to bet that she was not even thinking about her next opportunity to drag the American flag across the ground. Some might point out that the McCain campaign deserves to be criticized for this Republican Flag-Desecration Scandal, because they attempted to create and exploit a false flag desecration scandal earlier in the campaign in an attempt to damage Obama. To that I say, let bygones be bygones, and let's just ignore the Republican Flag-Desecration Scandal That Happened Right Here In Missouri!! Why do I think we should ignore the Republican Flag-Desecration Scandal That Happened Right Here In Missouri? Because this campaign ought to be about the issues, not about the Republican Flag-Desecration Scandal That Happened Right Here In Missouri. Personally, I would rather talk about Health Care Policy and Foreign Policy and the Economy than the Republican Flag-Desecration Scandal That Happened Right Here In Missouri. We also must remember that after November 4, we will need to work with the Republicans across the aisle, whether they were part of the Republican Flag-Desecration Scandal That Happened Right Here In Missouri, or not. So, please, fellow liberal bloggers, let's stop talking about the Republican Flag-Desecration Scandal That Happened Right Here In Missouri. Okay? I don't want to see this video ever again. McCain campaign drags the flag!!!

McCain campaign drags the flag!!! Posted by Black Knight on Wednesday, October 22, 2008 7:37:36 AM It matters to us because it matters to them. That huge American flag is dragging along the ground in Missouri, yesterday, following a John McCain rally. Let's all recall that John McCain and the Republicans tried to use a phony "flag desecration" story to damage the Democrats following our convention. So, my friends in the media, John McCain has made this story relevant. If John McCain, Sarah Palin, Michelle Bachman and the rest of the Republicans are going to walk around boasting about how they're better Americans than Democrats, better Americans than Barack Obama, then their party needs to stop treating the American flag like a used Kleenex. Had Obama done this, there'd be hell to pay. Once again, the Republicans talk a good talk about patriotism, about the flag, but when it comes to their actions, they're always somewhat wanting. http://www.americablog.com/2008/10/huge-american-flag-dumped-on-ground.html Tags: Politics Email It | Print It |

    The Great Flag Drag Scandal

John McCain's people, after a campaign rally in St Charles, Missouri, yesterday, let a very large American flag be dragged on the ground purposely and at length. In the hearts and minds of most Americans the act of dragging Old Glory is considered desecration tantamount to setting it aflame. AMERICAblog points out that "John McCain and the Republicans tried to use a phony 'flag desecration' story to damage the Democrats following our convention. So, my friends in the media, John McCain has made this story relevant. ... Had Obama done this, there'd be hell to pay. Has That Rovian Stench All Over It

Here come the idiot culture wars. The Bogus Flag Story - "It seems Fox News and some far-right blogs are excited about the latest in a series of lies from the McCain campaign -- the notion that thousands of American flags from the Democratic convention were going to be thrown away. Like far too many of the stories pushed by the McCain campaign, and embraced by Fox News and far-right blogs, it's not true. Days before the anniversary of September 11, on the same morning that John McCain and Barack Obama released a joint statement pledging to avoid politics in light of the anniversary of the terrorist attacks, McCain's campaign accused Democrats of throwing away 12,000 American flags. "The campaign says the flags were recovered from Invesco Field after the Democrats concluded their convention there," Fox News reported, "and they are going to be used as part of the warm-up ceremonies before McCain takes the stage" for a rally in Colorado Springs, Col. But according to a senior official involved in organizing the Democratic convention, the McCain camp is simply lying about the flags. "All of the flags at Invesco were picked up and put in bags and into storage, along with the unused flags and campaign signs. The flags were going to be donated, and the signs were going to be sent out to be used elsewhere," the official said, speaking anonymously since he was not authorized to talk to the press. A Democratic convention official told the Huffington Post, "It's pretty reprehensible on their part. Someone made an assumption, took the flags, and essentially lied about what was going to happen to them. I mean, c'mon, we were never ever going to throw out flags." It's hard not to get the impression that Republicans are looking for some kind of symbol to help them avoid discussing substance. For a while, it was arugula. Then flag pins. Then Paris Hilton. Soon after, it was tire gauges. Now, it's convention flags. Whether it's true or even coherent is apparently irrelevant."
