This is just brilliant. Yesterday, two white helicopters arrived in a jungle clearing where the hostages were being held. The men in the helicopters looked like guerrillas, Betancourt later said, describing details of the rescue at the military airport.

Che fashion update: Vivan las fashionistas

I have posted before about Che Guevara fashion trends. Now comes news of how such t-shirts can be used in a productive fashion.  The Colombian Special Forces troops that rescued the hostages held by the FARC terrorists wore such shirts.  They pretended to be from a non-governmental organization who was assisting the FARC in transferring the hostages. The terrorists fell for this hook, line, and sinker. What is interesting is that this casts a light on the political agenda of many self-styled “humanitarian” groups. The left-wing FARC people were easily fooled that such a group was “on their side” and actually helping them. Moreover, the members of such groups are often privileged offspring of upper and upper-middle class families. Nothing says clueless bourgeois tools of leftism as wearing Che t-shirts. No wonder the FARC were fooled. NOTE: Jim Geraghty’s take on Obama\’s response to the rescue. Freed US hostage denounces Colombian rebels

By Elizabeth White FORT SAM HOUSTON, Texas (AP) — Among the smiles and hugs shared by three American hostages freed last week from rebels in Colombia and their families, one of the men on Monday angrily denounced their captors as "terrorists with a capital 'T.'" Marc Gonsalves said the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, which held him and two other U.S. military contractors in captivity for more than five years, refuses to acknowledge human rights and rejects democracy. "I want to send a message to the FARC," Gonsalves said. "FARC, you guys are terrorists. You deny that you are, you say with words that you're not terrorists, but your words don't have any value. Don't tell us that you're not terrorists, show us that you're not terrorists." Gonsalves made the remarks at a ceremony welcoming him and two other U.S. military contractors — Thomas Howes and Keith Stansell — home after their time in captivity. The military said the hostages would take no questions from reporters. Family members, some wiping tears, also expressed their gratitude for their loved ones' rescue. Gonsalves, who was much thinner than he seemed in a pre-captivity picture on display at the ceremony, said he believed the guerrilla group was punishing others because the three men and former Colombian presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt were rescued. He said a hostage with a chain around his neck would be forced to march while carrying a heavy backpack and a guerrilla armed with an automatic weapon held the other end of the chain "like a dog." "They say that they want equality, they say that they just want to make Colombia a better place," Gonsalves said. "But it's all a lie." The men had been held by the FARC since their drug-surveillance plane went down in the jungle in February 2003. They were rescued when Colombian spies tricked their rebel captors into handing them over. Eleven members of the Colombian security forces also were released. The men, employees of a Northrop Grumman Corp. subsidiary, arrived in the U.S. late Wednesday and were taken by helicopter to Fort Sam Houston's Brooke Army Medical Center, where they have been treated. Col. Jackie Hayes, chief of pulmonary and critical care at the medical center, said the men "in general fared very well" and that examinations have "not revealed any significant medical problems." "At this time we believe that they are all very healthy," Hayes said. The men, who spoke in an auditorium adorned with large yellow ribbons and an American flag, thanked their families, the Colombian military, the U.S. government and Northrop Grumman. "It's a pleasure to be in the USA," Howes said, giving a thumbs-up. 15 Hostages Rescued in Colombia Military Tricks Rebels Into Freeing Politician Betancourt, 3 American Contractors WELCOME HOME!

Where in the World is John McCain?

    http://michaelmortenson.com/2008/07/07/where-in-the-world-is...

Where in the World is John McCain? While we Americans prepared to celebrate our Nation’s birthday, John McCain was visiting our southern neighbors to discuss free trade. (MEXICO TRIP).  Why?  Because either Mr. McCain or his advisors thought a trip just before the 4th of July to discuss NAFTA, a topic wildly unpopular in key battleground states like Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania, would be beneficial.  Was it?  Doubtful.  Republicans, myself included, have criticized the timing and necessity of the trip.  (HERE).  Moreover, his trip did not generate much news, it was overshadowed by the FARC hostage rescue (HERE), and any news that Mr. McCain’s trip did generate went mostly unnoticed because it was the 4TH OF JULY!   Mr. McCain’s ridiculous free trade trip won’

No longer available in Colombia. In a letter to the Wall Street Journal that was coincidently published on the day of the hostage rescue, Peruvian writer Alvaro Vargas Llosa tells the real story of Che Guevara. Far from being a hero, he presided over mass executions, prison labor camps, bloody and failed insurrections, and economic ruin. Then there's Geraghty's headline from TCS: Obama: I Salute Uribe Freeing Hostages From Group Whose Sponsor I Will Meet Ah, yes. It was "diplomatic power" that helped the Colombian army send a fake message to move the hostages, meet the FARC group in disguise (they dressed in Che t-shirts!), and take them onto two helicopters, where they then flew to freedom. Yet Congress still continues to sit on their collective hands and not pass the Colombia Free Trade Agreement, despite the fact their military risked life and limb to free 3 American hostages. The U.S.-Colombia Free Trade Agreement is a win-win for Montana. Sí se puede! Mike
